Water Quality Testing

Water quality testing is the process of analyzing water samples to determine the presence and concentration of various substances, both beneficial and harmful, to assess its suitability for specific uses. This process helps identify potential contaminants, understand the water's overall health, and ensure it meets safety standards for drinking, recreation, or other purposes.

Why Get My Water Tested

Water quality testing is done to evaluate the physical, chemical, and biological characteristics of water to ensure it's safe for consumption, meets environmental standards, and is suitable for other uses like agriculture or recreation.

Parameters:

  • Various parameters are tested, including:

  • Physical: Temperature, turbidity (cloudiness), color, odor, and taste.

  • Chemical: pH, dissolved oxygen, salinity, nutrients (nitrogen, phosphorus), heavy metals (lead, mercury), pesticides, and other organic and inorganic compounds.

  • Biological: Presence of bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms that can cause disease.

How Does Water Get Into My House?

Water typically enters your house through a main water line connected to the city's water supply system. This main line, often buried underground, connects to a smaller service line that runs to your property. Inside your home, this service line connects to your internal plumbing system, allowing water to flow to your faucets, toilets, and other fixtures.

A Few Signs Your Water Quality Might Need Testing

  • Chlorine: A swimming pool-like smell or taste can indicate over-chlorination.

  • Sulfur: A rotten egg smell usually means hydrogen sulfide gas is present.

  • Metallic Taste: This could indicate high levels of iron, manganese, or zinc.

  • Other Off-Tastes: Salty, bitter, or oily tastes also warrant investigation.

Benefits Of Having A Licensed Inspector Test My Water Quality

  1. Interpreting The results: Collecting and sending the water samples yourself to the lab is possible, however without the proper training/knowledge of what exactly to look for, you will be left with more questions then answers. Labs do not typically answer all those questions you might have because the person on the phone is never the people inside the lab. It's usually a front desk attendant and their not trained on anything to do with water quality.

  2. Save Time & Ensure Its Done Correctly: Having to order the supplies for the water testing, wait till they arrive, then drive to the lab yourself is time consuming especially when your busy. Inspectors have supplies on hand and handle all that for you and deliver the results within 24 hours.

  3. Get A Report From A Licensed Professional: Not only do you get a report from the lab, you will get a written report from us documenting anything we find with pictures, video, and descriptions of inspection findings. It's important if your renting/leasing and need a licensed professional showing all the issues, which this report can be sent to landlords/HOA to prove theirs an issue or legal action will be taken.
